The Challenge

Birdies’ site speed was negatively impacting their SEO and Conversion rates

Navigating the competitive terrain of the footwear industry, the team at Birdies recognized that their site speed did not measure up to that of other industry leaders. As of November 2023, studies indicate that over 55% of website traffic originates from mobile device users. Given that 70% of Birdies' traffic comes from mobile users, they were keenly aware that their SEO and conversion rates were not reaching their full potential. Recognizing that latency is the number one cause of mobile cart abandonment Birdies understood the necessity for action.

Having been on Shopify for over five years, Birdies initially suspected that excess code could be causing the issue. As a solution, they attempted an in-house resolution by assigning their development team to clean up the site. Despite making incremental speed improvements by removing excess code and unnecessary slow-loading images, Birdies realized this issue was consuming a significant amount of valuable developer time, resulting in expensive work with little reward. Eventually, Birdies acknowledged that their development team's time could be better spent elsewhere and began searching for alternative solutions.
